Topic: What are ThermaGlas sealing tapes
and why are they needed?

In order to ensure the long-term clarity of ThermaGlas multi-wall polycarbonate panels, it is recommended that both ends of the panel be sealed with a proper sealing tape. The top edge of the panel requires a solid tape, whereas the bottom edge of the panel requires a permeable “breather” tape be used.

Permeable Tape

Each type of tape serves a different purpose.

Solid Sealing Tape is a solid tape that is applied to the upper end of ThermaGlas panels. The solid tape protects the panel from contaminates entering the panel. This tape is designed to accommodate expansion and contraction of the panel without deterioration.

Non-Woven Anti-Dust Tape is a breathable tape that is applied to the bottom end of the panel. The breathable tape prevents dust from entering the panel cells but will allow moisture to drain off. This tape is also designed to accommodate expansion and contraction of the panel without deterioration.

Applying The Tapes

  1. Before applying the tapes, make sure that the protective plastic scrim is removed and that the panel surface. Use an Palram Scrim Stripper to make this job quick and painless. Also make sure that the panel is clean of debris, dust, and moisture.
  2. The tape is easily applied manually by hand, or even faster by using a specially designed dispenser.
  3. Begin at one corner of the panel. Make sure an equal amount of tape can be attached to both sides of the panel to ensure a secure and effective bond.
  4. Continue along the base or top of the panel until the entire panel is completed.
  5. Cut the tape and begin on your next panel. It’s that simple.

Calculating Your Needs

Here's one easy way to calculate the number of rolls of tape required for a specific job:

  1. Multiply the number of panels required for the job by the panel width. This will give you the total linear feet for EACH tape (e.g., 100 panels x 6ft wide = 600 LF).
  2. Divide the total linear feet needed and divide it by the tape’s roll length. Our tape length is 110 ft. This will give you the number of rolls needed. Be sure to round the number up to a full roll quantity. (Example: 600 LF / 110 LF roll = 5.45 rolls or rounded up to 6 rolls).
  3. Using this example, keep in mind that you will need 6 rolls of both types of tape, Solid Sealing Tape for the top and Anti-Dust Tape for the bottom.
